Modern Values in Today's Leadership

Examine the picture and read the following before posting comments.
Author and Speaker Stephen Covey stated, "Personal leadership is the process of keeping your vision and your values before you and aligning your life to be congruent with them."
Integrity can be defined as the consistency of our character, especially when no one is looking over our shoulder. The Law of Core Values states that what is really important to us, our values, drives our leadership and determines our actions. What does this cartoon reveal about this man's values? How does he justify his decisions?
What principle what you share with this leader/employee to motivate him to change his values and therefore, his productivity? WHY SHOULD HE CHANGE?

  1. The man sitting behind the desk is showing that his core values are not very strong and they are not in the correct place. The comment below the picture is saying that his(the man behind the desk) core and inner values are not very good! He should still put forth hard work 100% of the time, no matter what percentage of their salary is going to the government! He is definitley not someone you would want to work with or have working for you. :)

  2. The man obviously does not have the greatest values. His justification is that if he's not receiving something for the work, then he doesn't need to be doing it. I would share with him the Law of the "little things" and say that his decision to slack off in work will affect his future. If he continues to act the way he is he will lose the trust of others, and potential jobs/opportunities may no longer be available. He needs realize that his actions will not only affect himself but those around him and that as a citizen and employee he should have the responsibility to what is required of him.

  3. The man doesn't have very good values. He only works if he's actually getting paid for it. He needs to get his priorities straight.

  6. Top three priorities for a good worker should be.. 1. Please the customers. 2. Be committed to whatever needs to get done 100% of the time. 3. Work like the boss is watching the entire time.

I would just start by asking him if thats how he would want his electrician, plummer, etc. to treat thier jobs. I'd say its really up to you for how much or how hard you work, but be ready for the consequences when an ambitious employee takes your job.

  7. He is a lazy person I think. He is just looking for an excuse to not work. He tries to justify his laziness with the government comment. I can't tell you his priorities but I can tell that work isn't one of them.
I think that he would need to think about what his work does for other people. That might motivate him to work. He should try not to be selfish about his work.

  8. He doesn't really seem to want to work. He's showing that he doesn't have good values by blaming it on the government for why he doesn't want to work.

  9. I think the man's values are pathetic, not to seem like a jerk but its all I could think of. The person is concerned with money, since part of his pay is being taken his effort drops. It should be a habit to work the hardest you can, especially in a job. The boss should motivate his employee that the higher productivity the more he could get paid. Also to work for a common goal.

  10. I think Shae's comment goes directly with what Mr. Fritz said in class about coming up with excuses to not do something. Like hitting the snooze bar one time and later on that week or next week you want to do that again because you justify it with that one time. This guy in the picture is kind of doing the same thing with the excuse of blaming the government for him not working to his full potential.

  11. This cartoon shows that he isn't going to work unless he gets all of the funds he is earning. Is his goals in the right place? No, but he is just trying to show that he feels he has been taken advantage of.

  12. This man has no real vaule on hard work. He should be think on how he could use his skills to better the company and not just how he can make money.

  13. This man should better seriously overlook his values. He works just because of the salary, and that's why he says that he's going to work 72% of his time. I think he should better pay more attention to the work that he is supposed to do and to its quality. Other way he may lose his job.

  14. My top 3 priorities would be: Work Ethic, Trustworthiness, and Understanding

  15. He needs to work 100% of the time, all the time. Also, he needs to prove that he is worthy of his wages. And, I would like to add that he needs to work hard not for the sake of his pay check but to show that he values his company.
